Octavia’s story – a hedgehog miracle!

I wanted to share this video with you all – Octavia’s story. She came into my hedgehog hospital as a tiny hoglet only 153g. She had a terrible infected bite wound. It took weeks to treat the injury. Then she lost all her fur and most of her spines due to ringworm. This is common when a hedgehog is run down or sick. It has been a long journey to recovery but she is now over 650g and ready for hibernation.

You can read more about Octavia’s injury was treated here.

UPDATE MAY 2018.

I am so proud to say that Octavia was released back to the wild on 6 May 2018. Stay safe miracle girl!

  1. I found a little hoglet 3 weeks ago one afternoon on my way one from work. Broad daylight. This poor little cutie was found next to his dead mummy and a sibling. I just had to rescue him. He was dehydrated and hungry. I rung my local rspca in the hope of some advice. They couldn’t take the little
Fella and didn’t give me anyone else to contact. So I nurse him back to health. He’s grown so much, eating and drinking lots and pooping just fine. However I suspected he has mange/ringworm and this article has confirmed it. I thought he had poorly eyes but they now are fine but he’s lost his fir around his eyes and part of his face towards his ears, it also looks crusty. I now must get him to the vets! You mentioned some treatments for bathing (I’ve only been washing him in warm water and he hates it!) could you recommend some to me please? Many many thanks and your work is amazing. By the way I’ve named him hagrid!
