Wildlife Garden Open Day July 2026

We are opening our wildlife friendly gravel garden and wildflower meadow on Saturday 11 July 10am to 4pm. We are near Pocklington at the foothills of the Yorkshire Wolds.

Visitors can see how we are creating two very distinct wildlife gardens (total 2/3 of an acre) to encourage birds, insects and mammals to thrive. Discover the South garden which is packed with wildflowers, dead hedges, log walls, a collection of small native trees, insect hotels and a Barn Owl box. July is a fabulous time to view the meadow with the wildflowers in full bloom.

Then explore our North garden which is a climate resilient (drought tolerant) gravel garden featuring a Victorian glasshouse packed with plants and surrounded by prairie style border planting including lots of grasses.

Myself (Emma) and my partner Phil have been busy creating the wildlife garden over the past 2.5 years. Part of the site was formerly a cattery and kennels. Following the removal of the buildings by hand, in Autumn 2025 over 200 tons of concrete was crushed, some of which has remained on site as the environmentally friendly substrate for the new garden. We have planted over 100 trees and metres of hedging as well as adding planting for birds and pollinators. We won a Wildlife Gardening Gold Award in 2025 and 2026. We have lots of big ideas for further wildlife friendly projects. Emma is a former wild hedgehog rehabilitator and wildlife inspired jeweller and also runs courses on site.

Admission is £5 payable on the gate by cash or Paypal for adults (free for 16 and under) and proceeds will support our next project – the creation of a wildlife friendly pond.

Refreshments and toilets available. Nature jewellery (limited range) and plant stall with wildlife-friendly plants grown on site.

There is limited parking available immediately outside the venue. If you park in the village or nearby areas please park courteously. It is a nice walk from Nunburnholme back to the venue in Burnby.

The address is: https://share.google/rQOLOKvRfRqJMr08q – next house on the left after Burnby Equestrian Centre on the road towards Nunburnholme. You will feel like you are leaving the village.
